Leading research firm Ovum has released a selection of top trends discernible from the show floor at CES in Las Vegas earlier this month.
Chief among them, in terms of their relevance for OTT platforms, was the expected effect the global Netflix expansion – making the service available in a further 130 countries – would have for consumer electronics manufactures and beyond.
“Netflix has proved to be a ‘hero’ service for subscription-based video-on-demand (SVOD), stimulating adoption and competition almost everywhere it has launched,” explains Ovum’s Rob Gallagher (Director Research & Analysis, Media & Entertainment). “These benefits have flowed to consumer electronics manufacturers as well, as consumers have bought devices to enjoy the service on new screens.”
