According to a report, the total US home entertainment spending has exceeded the industry’s box office sales in 2017. Particular growth was seen in electronic sell-through and Video-on-Demand (VOD) with the earlier rising nearly 6%, driven by a 12% increase in theatrical purchases.
Integrated VOD which grew by 11%, total digital sales including streaming and subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) rose nearly 20% in 2017.
The report also reveals that consumers are still interested in 4K/Ultra HD technology with 14.6 million 4K TVs being sold in 2017. Also, there are approximately eight million households with 4K/Ultra HD Blu-ray playback devices, including set-top players and game consoles.
Total HDTV penetration including the Ultra HD sector stood at more than 120 million households. Blu-ray playback devices (including set-tops and game consoles) were found to be in 97 million US households.
