According to a study from Digital TV Research, there will be 16.5 million subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) subscribers throughout Eastern Europe by 2022. This is 4 times more than what was reported in end of 2016.
SVOD is expected to become the largest source of revenue from Over the Top (OTT) video by end of 2017. Revenues are projected to reach $1.3 billion by 2022 representing 57% of total OTT revenues.
Netflix and Amazon Prime video are expected to drive the growth of SVOD in Eastern Europe to a huge extent. Netflix is estimated to have 3.43 million subscribers by 2022. Amazon Prime Video is expected to reach a total of 1.12 million subscribers by 2022.
This represents an increase of $190 million compared with 2016 when SVOD made up just over a third of total OTT revenues.
Apart from the 6.80 million SVOD subcribers by 2022, it is estimated that 35% of SVOD subscribers in the rest of the 21 Eastern European countries will be occupied by Netflix. Amazon Prime is estimated to represent 12%.
