According to a report, China’s live streaming revenue in 2017 clocked 30.45 billion yuan (USD 4.76 billion) which is 39% up from 2016.

China has been a veteran in the live streaming arena with the service emerging in the year 2005. However, it has been struggling with content related issues over the years, and thanks to strong intervention by Ministry of Culture, 73 live streaming platforms have been shut down, and 1,879 live streamers have received lifetime bans in the first half of 2017.

Wu Jiangbo, Head of the Cultural Market Department, quoted, “The department will continue to strengthen the supervision over and regulation of the live streaming market, in order to attach equal importance to supervision and service, and guide the business into healthy and rapid development.”
