Despite the rising traction for newer services like DC Universe, Netflix owns 71% of the global subscription video-on-demand (SVoD) market and still grabs 68% of share in the US.
According to the research, it’s all because of the original content that helped Netflix to retain its subscriber base across the world. Out of 319 new titles premiered in 2018, the leading video streaming giant released 139 originals with an investment of $12 million on content creation and licensing.
As new players are entering into the streaming industry, including Apple with Apple TV Plus and Disney with its Disney Plus service, it is expected that the competition will increase and the industry will primarily focus more on the quality content.
