According to a report from Digital TV Research, there is plenty of scope for growth for the North American subscription video on-demand (SVOD) market.
The research further suggests that US SVOD will grow from 112 million subscribers at the end of 2016 to 171 million by 2022. This means that 70.3% of US TV households are expected to subscribe to at least one SVOD platform by this time.
Some other findings from the research included SVOD subscriptions for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video will account for 72.5% of North America’s SVOD subscribers by 2022 down from 78.6% in 2017. Netflix is estimated to have 59 million subscribers in the US by 2022 and 7 million in Canada.
