In an effort to reach cord-cutters, Smithsonian Networks has launched Smithsonian Channel Plus. The new SVOD platform has 1,000-plus hours of streaming nonfiction programming which will be available at $5 per month.

The new subscription VOD service incorporates Smithsonian Earth, the company’s $3.99-monthly SVOD service which was introduced three years ago with content focusing on nature and wildlife.

Smithsonian Networks which is a joint venture between CBS’s Showtime Networks and Smithsonian Institution, considers the move to be a revenue booster addressing to OTT enthusiasts who have become cord-cutters.
