SVOD to rise by 85% in China

SVOD on the rise in China

According to a new research, China will account for 85% of Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) customers and 78% of online video sector revenues in the Asia Pacific region by 2022.

According to some research studies from Media Partners Asia (MPA), the factors that drive the growth of SVOD in China include large-scale investment in original and acquired over-the-top (OTT) content, a not so strong market for traditional Pay TV which has resulted in the Chinese capitalizing on the opportunity to distribute premium content and monetization via online video.

Online video revenues are set to grow at 21% CAGR between 2017 and 2022 across Asia leading to a rise from US$ 17.6 billion in 2017 to US$ 46 billion by 2022 as per MPA research.
Factors driving the growth of streaming video in Japan, Australia, India, Korea and Taiwan include a robust payment infrastructure, rise of advertising-funded platforms and the rise of premium, subscription-based platforms.  Read More
