Univision has announced OTT content deals with major content providers such as BBC, Comarex, RCN, RTVE, Televisa, and Viacom for its SVOD platform after it failed to reach an agreement with Lionsgate for the US Hispanic audience. It may be noted here that the two parties decided to part ways due to a negotiation failure which continued for one and half year.
The revamped direct to customer SVOD service targets to become a hub of Spanish-language content for the US audience.
Tonia O’Connor, UCI’s Chief Revenue Officer, quoted, “Think of it as the epicenter of Spanish-language entertainment – anchored and curated by Univision and bringing together the best titles from around the globe by other leading media companies and content creators.”
Sheri Weidner, SVP partnerships, distribution and business development, Viacom, said, “We look forward to working collaboratively with Univision as they launch their service and deliver programming that represents the breadth of Spanish-language hits across our global properties, from top kids’ shows to ground-breaking reality formats that are enjoyed throughout the Spanish-speaking world.”
