According to new data from App Annie, Americans spent around 12 billion hours on the top 10 video streaming apps on Android in the period ending July 2017. This number has grown 45% year-over-year.
Those surveyed spent 80% of those 12 billion hours on YouTube app alone. YouTube comes pre-installed on most Android phones. Premium video services such as Netflix are beginning to make a dent in the Android video streaming app segment and it currently ranks second in terms of time spent and mobile video subscriptions.
Netflix leads the list of top grossing apps, followed by HBO Now.
YouTube ranks third in this category based on its YouTube Red subscription tier.
